My name is Denae Howes, I am a four-year college athlete and am now transitioning to coaching full time. I have played softball since I was able to play t-ball and continued to grow as a player and person through my time. Throughout my athletic career I played a variety of sports and encourage others to do so, that way they can find a passion with what calls to them. I played softball at Colorado Northwestern Community College and Central College of Iowa. I was a pitcher and outfielder, as well as being a pinch runner when not on the field. I graduated in 2021 with a degree in exercise science and hope to use what I’ve learned in school and experience to further develop other athletes into the best possible selves. I am lucky to have been coached by the top coach in NCAA D3 and to learn from him many aspects of the game that many don’t think about.
My goals as a coach are to create a relationship with athletes that can give them a place to grow, develop them to be better than when they came to me, and teach them how to love themselves even if they aren’t having a good day. These are goals that may not be achieved with every athlete that will come my way, but when they do happen it will be such a successful moment. Also, these goals are totally centered around the athlete because I believe that I am just a tool that helps them evolve into what they really want to be. I am constantly learning and growing each day that I interact with player, they teach me more than anything. Coaching isn’t about me, it’s about the athletes and sharing the love of the sport. Giving them everything that you have so that they can succeed and continue to move on, continue to grow. I can’t wait to coach and work to be the positive influence on somebody like my coaches were to me.
